Rep. Ilhan Omar Denounces Federal Immigration Operation in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has intensified her criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts, accusing federal authorities of effectively placing Minneapolis “under occupation.” During remarks to both local residents and national media, Omar urged the removal or possible impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Claims of a Federal “Occupation”

Omar’s comments focus on Operation Metro Surge, a federal campaign designed to detain undocumented immigrants who have criminal records. According to Omar, however, the operation has turned into what she described as a “paramilitary-style presence” that is disrupting everyday life across parts of the city.

She pointed to several community impacts:

Schools: Omar said some schools have seen attendance drop sharply, claiming that as many as two-thirds of students are staying home because families fear encounters with federal agents.

Hospitals: She also alleged that residents are avoiding hospitals and clinics after reports that federal officers have been seen near medical facilities.

“We are not exaggerating when we say that our city feels like it is under occupation,” Omar said during a public event in Minneapolis on Monday.

Omar also criticized White House adviser Stephen Miller, describing him as the “architect” of the administration’s immigration strategy and comparing its approach to policies used by authoritarian regimes.
